Photographers at Painters.........kinda

The seventh annual Photographers at Painters www.painterslodge.com/lodge/events/photographer-at-painters event is happening this year at............April Point Lodge!?!?!?!?!  http://www.aprilpoint.com/
The lectures and presentations this year will be presented at the Painters Lodge 'sister' resort and Spa , right across  the straight, on Quadra Island, May 4, 5, 6.
Painters Lodge  http://www.painterslodge.com/ /April Point Lodge & Spa, in Campbell River, B.C., offers a package that includes two nights accommodation, two brunches, a wine & cheese 'schmooze' with all the participating presenters, along with two full days of lectures, presentaions & discussions by a group of Western Canada's most prominant photographers.
The returning group of presenters includes Mitch Stringer, Sean White, Steven Friedman, Janet Dwyer, Sharon Milstein, Deddeda Stemler, Christina Craft, Tony Bounsall, Dave Montizambert and myself.

Each photographer is presenting a separate topic to give the audience a range of subject matters to choose from. This year my topic is "Don't Fear the Flash". I'll be talking about how learning to get more from your flash will give you more creative freedom.

We usually cap the Saturday afternoon with an open panel discussion, where the participants have an opportunity to put questions to the presenting group, and get a feel for the pros' motivations and quirks.
The weekend provides an excellent forum for photographers of all levels to rub shoulders, connect and create networks.
The weekend is wrapped up on the Sunday afternoon with a critique presented in the format of "speed-dating", without any messy commitments. That means that individuals can bring a small portfolio of prints to have the presenters give them a one-on-one critique for suggestions and direction. All the presenters are available for quick, 5 minute critiques, 'til the bell rings and everyone moves on for feedback from another pro, while the pros connect with the next portfolio to discuss. An enlightening and productive session for all involved.
The coast is beautiful at that time of year, the Lodge has all the comforts you can look for and the food is spectacular. There are great shooting opportunites as well as an excellent chance to meet and connect with a wide range of talents and like-minded photographers.
I hope we can have an opportunity to meet and chat the first week of May, up island.
